ARE YOU AND EASY MARK? AND DO YOU EVEN KNOW WHEN YOU ARE BEING PLAYED?
We have been hearing about how political operatives use fear to manipulate people during elections. They even admit that the information does not need to be true just believed to get the voters on their side.
We can all be outraged, and we should be but what does it say about us that we allow fear to be our primary motivator?
As we are waking up and evolving in consciousness, we have to take responsibility for our emotions and especially our fear. We must quit pretending that we are victims or puppets of our emotions. That is like blaming our legs for walking into the side of a table. Just as our legs are not separate from us with a power to make us walk into tables, nor or our emotions separate from us with a power to force us to make bad and harmful decisions.
It is time to confront our fears. We can start small by looking at the fear that arises in our daily life so that when we are bombarded with fear from the outside with the purpose of manipulating us, we will be able to see it for what it is and stop it in its tracks.
This is a technique I described in my first book* called The Truth Technique. I use it whenever I find that fear is starting to grip me.
Let’s say you suddenly find you are consumed with fear over money.
1) Acknowledge you are in fear –Call it by name. I am afraid I am going to be broke. I am in fear that I will have to live on the street. When you take the moment to label something, it starts to separate you from the emotion.
2) Ask where is this fear coming from –what triggered it? Was it something I saw on TV or online or did I read something that triggered my fear? Oh yeah, I just say that financial advisor on TV shouting about the doom of the stock market. Discovering what triggered the fear helps you see the correlation between seeing or hearing something that brings up the emotion reminding you that you are reacting to someone else’s version of reality, not a truth written in stone.
3) State the TRUTH at this moment. Don’t look to the future. Stay in the present. The truth is I am safe right now. I have a roof over my head and food in the fridge. I have enough money for this month. This starts to calm you down and keeps you from going into a fear loop and brings you back to the present. And if there is something that you need to address, you can do it from a calm center later not a fear-driven frenzy.
This simple technique is not going to help with deep-seated fears that need healing but it will help you to start to take your power back from fear by; staying conscious of what is going on around you, how it is impacting you emotionally, and bring you back to the present truth.
Until next time be the light the world needs and stay in love for all.
